Tree Care Tips

The health of your trees is most likely something you often overlook if you're like most people. They've been around forever, and no matter what we do to them, they always seem to recover, right? This isn't always the case, regrettably. Like every living entity, trees are prone to diseases and infestations. Because of this, it's crucial to preserve their vitality by applying basic tree care guidelines.

  • Use Certified Arborists

A wonderful approach to be sure that your tree is healthy and free of any potential issues is getting it checked out by a Certified Arborist. They will be able to identify things like pest infestations or limbs that are no longer alive that you might not see. The best thing you can do for your trees is getting a skilled arborist to check them!

  • Mulch Your Trees

You may shield your trees from unwanted plants, harmful pests, and inclement weather by mulching them. By giving the roots the nutrients they require, it also helps to maintain their health. Every year, you should mulch your trees with a two to four inch layer. Avoid stacking the mulch up too high around the tree trunk as this can result in complications.

  • Defend Trees Against Pets

It's crucial to secure your trees because pests can seriously harm them. Be sure to call a Certified Arborist as soon as you spot any pests on your trees. To deter pests around your trees, you can also use repelling methods or traps.

  • Fertilize Trees

For proper growth, trees require nutrients. It's crucial to fertilize your trees on a consistent basis if you reside in a region with poor soil. Either buying fertilizer or producing your own compost are options. Complying with the guidelines on the fertilizer container is important since excessive fertilizer application can harm your trees.

  • Cut Back Your Tres

One of the most crucial things you can do for your trees is pruning. By removing any branches that are dead, diseased, or growing in an unfavorable manner, it contributes to their sustained vitality. Before new growth starts, the latter part of winter or early spring are the optimal periods for trimming.

  • Water Trees Regularly

Water is vital for a tree's vibrant well-being! It's astonishing to see how often people forget to water their trees, even though it's a seemingly straightforward task. Make sure to thoroughly bathe the roots when watering so they can uptake as much moisture as they need. Explore our online resources to learn how to water your new tree if you just planted one.

  • Inspect Trees For Signs of Diseases

If diseases are not treated in a timely manner they can swiftly spread and damage your trees. It's crucial to watch for any indicators of disease in your trees because of this. Reach out to a certified tree specialist straight away if you see anything strange, such as tinted leaves or branches.

  • Trim Grass Surrounding Your Trees

It's of utmost importance to get rid of grass and weeds since they can vie for your trees for nutrients and water. The weeds can be taken out by hand or by applying herbicidal substances. Given that specific herbicidal products can harm trees if applied improperly, be sure to follow the instructions on the container.

In 1873, Samuel Parks constructed a home and a water-powered gristmill along Breakneck Creek. Parks decided to have a post office placed in his home, so he received help from his friend Samuel Marshall to help establish it. The name of the post office became Overbrook. In 1877, the Pittsburgh, New Castle and Lake Erie Railroad was constructed through Overbrook, and had a station built there. In 1882, the name of the community was changed to Mars since the railroad already had a stop with the name "Overbrook". No one is sure how the name "Mars" came into being. Some say it was Park's wife who enjoyed astronomy, while others believe it was shortened after Samuel Marshall's name. On March 6, 1895, Mars was incorporated as a borough.
