Tree Care Tips

The health of your trees is probably something you often overlook if you're like most people. They've graced the landscape for a long time, and despite any treatment they receive, they typically manage to revive, right? This isn't always the case, regrettably. Like every living entity, trees are prone to diseases and infestations. Because of this, it's essential to preserve their vitality by applying basic tree care guidelines.

  • Use Certified Arborists

A fantastic way to be sure that your tree is healthy and free of any potential issues is getting it checked out by a Certified Arborist. They will be able to identify things like bug infestations or dead limbs that you could overlook. The best thing you can do for your trees is getting a skilled arborist to check them!

  • Mulch Your Trees

You may safeguard your trees from unwanted plants, harmful pests, and bad weather by mulching them. By supplying the roots essential nutrients, it also promotes their overall health. Every year, you should add mulch to your trees with a two to four inch layer. Refrain from heaping mulch too high near the tree's trunk as this can lead to issues.

  • Defend Trees Against Pets

It's crucial to secure your trees because unwanted visitors can severely damage them. Be sure to get in touch with an arborist with proper certification as soon as you spot any pests on your trees. To keep pests away from your trees, you can also use repelling methods or traps.

  • Fertilize Trees

To promote proper development, trees require nutrients. It's essential to feed your trees frequently if you reside in a location with inadequate soil conditions. Either buying fertilizer or producing your own compost are options. Complying with the guidelines on the fertilizer container is important since excessive fertilizer application can harm your trees.

  • Cut Back Your Tres

One of the key actions you can do for your trees is pruning. By cutting off dead limbs, infected, or are developing in an unfavorable direction, it aids in their continued health. Before new growth starts, the latter part of winter or early spring are the optimal periods for trimming.

  • Water Trees Regularly

Adequate hydration is vital for a tree's growth and health! You'd be amazed at people forget to water their trees, even though it's a seemingly straightforward task. Be sure to thoroughly bathe the roots when watering so they can absorb as much water as possible. Explore our online resources to learn how to water your new tree if you just planted one.

  • Inspect Trees For Signs of Diseases

If diseases are not treated in a timely manner they can swiftly spread and damage your trees. It's crucial to keep an eye out for any illness symptoms in your trees because of this. Contact a Certified Arborist straight away if you see anything strange, such as tinted leaves or tree branches.

  • Trim Grass Surrounding Your Trees

It's crucial to get rid of grass and weeds as they can vie for your trees for nutrients and water. The weeds can be taken out by hand or using a herbicide. Given that specific herbicidal products can harm trees if applied improperly, make careful to comply with the directions on the container.

The land that was to become Vernon Hills, founded by Richard Theodore Freese, Ron Freese, and Jim Carswell, began with the establishment of a 200-acre (0.81 km2) farm in 1857. Use of the land remained relatively static until the 1960s, when part of it was purchased for a residential community and golf course; the development was the first use of the name "Vernon Hills." On June 16, 1958, the village officially incorporated with 123 residents and 125 houses in a single subdivision built by Quinn Hogan and Barney Loeb. During these times, the village and police department were run from a local motel until 1971 when village trustees bought two portable buildings. It saw steady but slow growth until the annexing of a plot of land near the corner of IL-60 and IL-21 in 1971, which led to the building of 1,200,000-square-foot (110,000 m2) Hawthorn Center. By 1980, the village's population had grown to almost 10,000 residents, and by 2000, it had surpassed 20,000.
